AKC Registration Information

The American Kennel Club votes to include the Miniature Australian Shepherd as a new breed.

The American Kennel Club and the Miniature American Shepherd Club of the United States of America (formerly NAMASCUSA) have voted to create a new breed registry for the Miniature Australian Shepherd under AKC.  The new breed is to be called the Miniature American Shepherd.  MASCUSA is to be the parent registry for the new breed.

To pave the way for our dogs to be accepted into AKC, breeders can register their dogs with MASCUSA.  Dogs registered with National Stock Dog Registry (NSDR), Canadian Kennel Club (CKC), American Kennel Club (AKC), Miniature Australian Shepherd Club of America (MASCA) or Australian Shepherd Club of America (ASCA) can use the Dual Registered application, sent with a three generation pedigree including registration numbers.  Dogs registered with American Stock Dog Registry (ASDR) or American Pet Registry, Inc (APRI) can use the Hardship application sent with a three generation pedigree including registration numbers.  Hardship dogs must trace back to NSDR, MASCA, AKC, ASCA, CKC or NAMASCUSA within each generation.  More information and forms are available at NAMASCUSA.com.

Owners of Mini Aussies currently registered with AKC as Australian Shepherds will have the option of changing their dogs over to the new breed without losing the AKC points that they have already accumulated.  We will keep you updated on this exciting new development for our dogs.

(ASCA has indicated that any dogs currently registered with them who are registered elsewhere as anything other than Australian Shepherds will lose all rights and privledges provided by ASCA).
